WePAC joined the Little Free Library movement on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. LittleFree Libraries are outdoor structures (think of a very large mailbox or birdhouse) which contain books which can be taken and replaced. While there are approximately 10,000 Little Free Libraries around the world, there are only two in Philadelphia, neither of which caters exclusively to children. On MLK Day, WePAC, with the help of several noted children’s book illustrators, as well as Repair the World and St. Joseph’s volunteers, built and decorated 11 Little Free Libraries. Later in the spring, we will be placing them throughout West Philadelphia so that children have more access to books for independent reading.
